PRESS RELEASE: Rapid Developing Willoughby Sparks New Association

Willoughby Residents Association announces incorporation non-profit society

Langley is re-discovering growing pains as new development brings an increasing amount of issues to residents, businesses, and various government bodies. The Willoughby Development Area has and will see the majority of this new development in this decade.

Current and future residents of Willoughby neighbourhoods will continue to  face challenges in the years to come as Willoughby is set to become the most populous neighbourhood in Langley. Concerns about the development process, local schools, crime, infrastructure, transportation, and parks will all continue to be major factors as residents are often caught in the middle of growth and politics.

The Willoughby Residents Association was incorporated as as a non-profit BC Society on February 21, 2012. The Association seeks to encourage constructive cooperation between households, local businesses, and government bodies in the Willoughby neighbourhoods. The Association will promote sustainable development in the Willoughby Development Area of the Township of Langley and provide a public forum for policy matters concerning residents of all Willoughby neighbourhoods. Brad Richert was appointed President by the Board of Directors who include Willoughby residents Al Peterson, Rena Terry, Sonya Paterson, & Teresa Blades. The Willoughby Residents Association is made possible by community volunteers dedicated to building a better Langley.

At the root of the Association’s purpose is community involvement & engagement. As a forum for cooperation, the Association will provide the resources to residents to engage with community planning in a positive and constructive way. The Association hopes to bring all parties to the table in a respectful manner to create the most livable and desirable neighourhood possible.

All residents of Willoughby are automatic members of the Association with no fee, annual or otherwise. Membership is open to residents of the Willoughby Development Area, with north-south borders at Highway #1 and 62 Avenue and west-east borders at 196th Street and the Willowbrook Connector/216th Street. Our neighbourhoods include Carvolth, Central Gordon, Jericho, Latimer, North East Gordon, Routley, South West Gordon, Smith, Williams, Yorkson, and Willowbrook (including Langley Meadows).
